AI Features

AI Assist for unmatched lines and AI Advisor for part comparison.

BOMExplorer includes two distinct AI-powered features with separate usage budgets.

AI Assist

AI Assist targets BOM lines that conventional matching could not resolve — lines with no_match, missing MPN, or a previous AI-suggested result. It uses a language model to interpret the component description and searches providers for the best-fit part.

To use:

  1. Open a project with unmatched or pending lines.
  2. Click AI Assist in the toolbar above the BOM table.
  3. Locked lines and DNP lines are skipped automatically.
  4. Results appear in the BOM table with amber confidence and ai_suggested match type.
  5. Click any reference to open the Alternatives page and verify the suggestion before accepting it.

Budget

AI Assist consumes one unit per eligible line processed. The monthly budget is displayed in a counter near the button. If the quota is exceeded, additional units can be purchased from the Billing page.

AI Advisor

AI Advisor compares up to three alternative parts and returns a structured analysis — differences, trade-offs, and a recommendation — from a language model with full context about the BOM line.

To use:

  1. Open the Alternatives page for a BOM line.
  2. Use the checkboxes on alternative part cards to select up to 3 parts (a counter shows X/3).
  3. Click 🤖 Explain Selected.
  4. The analysis appears above the card grid with a formatted comparison and recommendation.
  5. Use the Copy button to export the analysis text to your clipboard.

Additional details

  • Identical queries return a cached response instantly, marked with ⚡.
  • Multiple comparisons can be run in sequence; results stack on the page.
  • AI Advisor uses a separate monthly budget from AI Assist.
  • Remaining budget is shown in a counter near the Explain button.
